Date A Girl Who Trains In Martial Arts

You guys may have already read a few articles that start with “Date a girl who” or similar. I truly enjoyed reading most of them. So now, I’ll shamelessly join the bandwagon and write my own version. Here are my 5 reasons why you should date a girl who trains in martial arts:

1. She can protect herself

Kick ass at work

No prince charming to rescue her? No problem! Date a girl who trains in martial arts because she doesn’t require any saving. She’s not a damsel in distress who needs a knight in shining armor, duh! Because she regularly trains, she can defend herself and fight back if the situation calls for it. Thus, you don’t have to worry about her safety constantly. But of course, it’s still sweet if you do. And don’t even think about hurting her, physically or otherwise, unless you want instant Armageddon to be upon you! Learning martial arts, whether it’s Filipino Kali, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu or whatever discipline, means she can make sure her loved ones are out of danger, too—that includes you.

2. She’s strong and healthy

Sweat It Out

Practicing martial arts means she constantly goes through tough cardio and conditioning exercises. While it’s already part of her lifestyle, she knows giving herself a break is just as essential as doing those intense drills. She enjoys eating greens as much as devouring carbs. Sure, she may feast on sinful food occasionally but she knows there’s always another training day to torch off all those extra calories. Date a girl who trains in martial arts because she’s strong and healthy without overkilling it.

3. She’s committed

Crazy Stupid Love

Combat sports need 100% commitment if you seriously want to learn and succeed. And being passionate about something or someone requires a lot of time, effort and resources. Therefore, if she’s very dedicated about her chosen martial art/s, you can almost assure that she feels the same way about other things that matter to her—including relationships. Date a girl who trains in martial arts because you can bet that if she likes you, she most probably would be loving and loyal to you.

4. She’s not Ms. Always Right

That's Fucking True

Maybe except for those few cocky, “I am the best” types of women. Training in a fighting art teaches her to be confident in her skills yet humble enough to accept defeat. Date a girl who trains because she understands that no matter how competitive she is, she’ll fail many times before she’ll finally succeed. Relationships wise, she accepts that her judgment can be wrong and that yours is probably right. And that’s okay with her because she knows that’s how you’ll grow together—by learning from each other’s mistakes—much like in training.

5. She doesn’t have princess syndrome

I'm a princess

She’s aware she doesn’t shit rainbows and sweat pearls. Date a girl who trains in martial arts because she’s not high maintenance and finicky. No, you don’t have to put her on a pedestal. Hell no, you don’t have to buy her branded bags and shoes that could feed a family or two for an entire month or more. She nibbles on mistakes, sweat, body contact, dirt, heat and other harsh conditions from training. Needless to say, she’s not hard to please. She doesn’t have princess syndrome because she’s the queen—and if you’re lucky, you’ll be her king. 😛 If you’re seeking for equal partnership (more or less), then date a girl who trains in martial arts.

Bonus: She won’t take her frustrations out on you

Jennifer Aniston

No nagging, yay! Because hitting the martial arts gym/dojo and training with her team/training partner is her way to release frustration, anger and stress. No need to put up with her daily grind stories that you may not be interested to know in the first place. If you haven’t dated a girl who trains in martial arts, then perhaps now’s the time to consider going out with one. If you’re into combat sports, too, then that’s a definite plus. If not, then why not train with her?

Still, to each his own. I know many guys prefer women who are more traditional, delicate and “girly girl.” That’s perfectly fine, as long as you’re not one of those men who are threatened/insecure/afraid by the more independent, assertive types of women. Just sayin’. Peace! 😛 Are you dating a girl who trains in martial arts or do you want to? Let me know in the comments below! 😉

  1. he’s dating me for 1year 10months.. (our relationship).. we’re both on the same field – arnis…
i feel comfty and safe with him…

  2. It’s always good to read about the reasons, because that’s exactly why I don’t really consider any woman dating-material unless she goes through some sort of training. The difficulty I tend to run into is we train too much to see each other, haha. I work my 40+ and train 5 nights a week plus saturday morning, after that there’s not much room for spending time with another. I think that comes later on in life though. Either way, great article!

  3. This post is so full of win. 😀 (love the gifs, too!)

  4. I actually like martial arts so that would be a plus

  5. i really would like to find a girl who is into martial arts or some other type of combat sport. do you have any suggestions as to how I could find a girl who lives this type of lifestyle?

  6. Yeah I just started, she’s a lot younger than me, so my 25 year old male ego from 30 years ago isn’t a factor, and I into training to so it’s something we can do together, although I dont like training in Taekwondo ( i suck at it, and she’s been doing it since she was a kid), but I am starting to get her into BJJ and other things outside of TKDO. So as for being intimidated, well I dont attack people we both believe it’s for self defense, and I am not worried about her attacking me. And if we are some place with a bad crowd and she/we/I get in trouble well it’s not just me it’s US so I got a partner thats capable of pulling some weight. I like that! I dont care if she can beat me at Taekwondo.

    • Hey thanks for sharing your story! Really fantastic to know that you’ve found yourself a partner who shares your passion for martial arts! Best of luck to both of you! Cheers!! 😉
